Deus Ishengoma

National Institute for Medical Research, Tanga, Tanzania

Deus Ishengoma is a research scientist at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Tanga Centre, Tanzania. He received a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and an MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2003. From January 2003, he worked as a laboratory scientist and head of Molecular Biology Unit at Amani Biomedical Research Laboratory (AMBRELA) in Tanga. Deus is currently a PhD student at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

His research interest includes molecular genetics of malaria parasites, drug resistance and genomic basis of susceptibility/resistance to malaria. In June 2006, he became a MalariaGEN Data Fellow and is responsible for data management at NIMR-Tanga. Deus has also successfully worked as a contact laboratory person responsible for processing of samples to be contributed to MalariaGEN. His most recent achievement was to set up a full-time functioning molecular biology and cell culture unit at AMBRELA.
