Hugh Reyburn is Senior Lecturer in Clinical Epidemiology at LSHTM and Project Leader of the Joint Malaria Programme based in Moshi, Tanzania. He graduated in 1974 and worked in adult hospital medicine (MRCP 1979) before completing the MSc in public health at LSHTM in 1982. He spent 3 years in Afghanistan and Pakistan working on cutaneous leishmaniasis and malaria control. This was followed by a year as the programme manager of an aid programme in East Timor focusing on district health care and malaria control.
Hugh's principal research interests include the epidemiology of malaria at different transmission intensities, malaria diagnosis and case management, 'point of care' diagnostic tests, the causes of severe illness in African children and diagnosis and case management of children with chronic anaemia.
