Jantina de Vries is ethics coordinator for the MalariaGEN network and is also conducting PhD research at the Ethox Centre. Jantina's current role in the network is the ongoing monitoring of ethics review for the various Consortial Projects, as well as engaging with the other members of the ethics team to address the ethical challenges that arise out of MalariaGEN's research.

Jantina's research at the Ethox Centre seeks to examine the ethical challenges that emerge in the use of ethnic data in genomic research. Fieldwork is conducted within the context of the MalariaGEN network.

Jantina holds a degree in Rural Development Sociology from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, as well as qualifications in Biology at the University of Groningen. Jantina also spent time at the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. Throughout the years, Jantina has focused on the role of science and technology in society, most often with a focus on developing countries. Previous experience in this field includes research projects in Ghana and Cuba to study the possibilities of developing agricultural biotechnologies for small-scale, resource-poor farmers. In Italy, she focused on the development and structure of scientific research on obesity, examining disciplinary stakes in scientific engagement with obesity.
