Kirk is the MalariaGEN Research Manager with responsibilities for overseeing the sample pipelines from sample receipt in Oxford to their inclusion into the genomewide genotyping experiments. Apart from working with the laboratory team to manage the processing and genotyping of samples, Kirk also works with the IT team on the web-based LIMS system to build and improve systems for managing the sample pipelines.
His interest in malaria began with his Ph.D. in London with Professor John Playfair at the University College and Middlesex School of Medicine and Professor Geoff Targett at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. From here Kirk went to work with Professor Ian Clark at the Australian National University in Canberra and thereafter returned to the UK to join Professor Kwiatkowski's group.
