Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Clinical Research Programme, Blantyre, Malawi

Malcolm Molyneux was Director of the Wellcome Trust's Major Overseas Programme in Malawi until August 2007. Malcolm continues to work in the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme. His clinical studies of severe malaria in Malawi have contributed to the defining of standards for recording clinical data. The collaboration of Malcolm Molyneux and Terrie Taylor (Blantyre Malaria Project) has led to discoveries including the design of the Blantyre Coma Scale, a rating scale for depth of coma, the discovery of the effectiveness of intravenous glucose for children and the use of autopsy material in malaria research.
