Resource centre informatics team

The informatics team is building secure web-based systems for managing and integrating large amounts of clinical and genetic data, with tools to assist MalariaGEN investigators and data fellows to perform complex analyses in a user-friendly way.

About the team

The informatics team is part of the MalariaGEN resource centre.  It is based at two locations: at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics in Oxford, and at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute near Cambridge.

A secure web database is the keystone of a MalariaGEN Consortial project.  When a sample is submitted to a Consortial Project, we want to make it possible for the MalariaGEN investigator who submitted the sample to track its progress and to access the laboratory data online.

The informatics team is building web-based laboratory information management systems at the leading edge of new genotyping and sequencing techonologies.  They work with the statistics team to develop user-friendly web tools and novel algorithms for complex analyses of genetic association and population genetics.

The informatics team has also developed web-based software to help MalariaGEN investigators and data fellows with the standardization and integration of clinical and epidemiological data across different study sites.
