Daniel Alcock

Daniel is an advanced research assistant for MalariaGEN based at Sanger. He is involved in MalariaGEN Consortial Projects 1 and 3 with his main focus on optimizing DNA handling protocols and sample preparation for Consortial Project 1. He also supports parasite re-sequencing and other lab-based projects, troubleshoots instrument running protocols and manages consumables in the Kwiatkowski main laboratory at Sanger.
Daniel studied Genetics and Immunology at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland before taking some years out to help the family pub business in Yorkshire, England. He then went back to science, working for the Forensic Science Service as a Forensic DNA analyst and robot support technician before joining the Kwiatkowski group and MalariaGEN at Sanger.
