Institut Pasteur, Paris, France
Anavaj Sakuntabhai is a MalariaGEN Investigator and Head of the Laboratory for Genetics of Human Response to Infection at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France. He has a M.D. from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, M.D. from University of Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K. and D.Phil. in Human Molecular Genetics, The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford, U.K.
His research interests include the genetic determination of susceptibility or resistance to clinical malaria attacks and asymptomatic infection, genes controlling the parasite level and gemetocytogenesis involved in malaria transmission and malaria from other Plasmodium species including P. Vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae.
Within MalariaGEN Anavaj and his team are contributing to Consortial Project 4 which aims to identify the genes responsible for susceptibility to clinical malaria and the genes controlling parasite levels using systematic genome screening approaches.
