Data Access
The primary purpose of Phase 1 of MalariaGEN is to identify genetic variants that confer protection against, or increase susceptibility to, the onset of severe malaria, through implementation and analysis of large-scale genome-wide association studies. Additional objectives include the identification and understanding of challenges faced in the conduct of large-scale genetic epidemiological studies in the context of African and other malaria-endemic countries.
The network anticipates that data generated from the project will be used by others; for example, such data are required for developing new analytical methods for determining patterns of polymorphism and for guiding the selection of markers to map genes involved in specific diseases.
Access to individual-level genotype data is available by application to the MalariaGEN Independent Data Access Committee. The data are stored in the European Genotyping Achive. Access to data will be granted to qualified investigators for appropriate use. For further information please see the MalariaGEN Data Release Policy.
