Where we work
Through a number of multi-centre projects, we work with clinicians and researchers in more than 30 malaria-endemic countries.
Below the map is a list of projects and, where applicable, their partner studies.

Ag1000G
Started 2014 Ag1000G is an international collaboration using whole genome deep sequencing to provide a high-resolution view of genetic variation in natural populations of Anopheles gambiae, the principal vector of Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Africa.Sampling locations: Angola (AO) | Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea (GQ) | Burkina Faso (BF) | Cameroon (CM) | Gabon (GA) | Ghana (GH) | Guinea-Bissau (GW) | Guinea (GN) | Ivory Coast (CI) | Kenya (KE) | Mayotte Island (YT) | The Gambia (GM) | Uganda (UG) -

P. falciparum Community Project
Started 2010 The P. falciparum Community Project provides researchers with high-quality genotypes linked to a global resource characterising genetic variation in P. falciparum populations.Sampling locations: Bangladesh (BD) | Benin (BJ) | Burkina Faso (BF) | Cambodia (KH) | Cameroon (CM) | Colombia (CO) | Congo (Democratic Republic of the Congo) (CD) | Ethiopia (ET) | Ghana (GH) | Guinea (GN) | Indonesia (ID) | Ivory Coast (CI) | Kenya (KE) | Laos (LA) | Madagascar (MG) | Malawi (MW) | Mali (ML) | Mauritania (MR) | Myanmar (MM) | Nigeria (NG) | Papua New Guinea (PG) | Peru (PE) | Senegal (SN) | Tanzania (TZ) | Thailand (TH) | The Gambia (GM) | Uganda (UG) | Vietnam (VN)Partner studies: -
P. vivax Genome Variation
Started 2010 The P. vivax Genome Variation project aims to understand genome diversity of this parasite that, because it can remain dormant in the liver for years, is particularly hard to eliminate using conventional malaria control measures.Sampling locations: Brazil (BR) | Cambodia (KH) | China (CN) | India (IN) | Indonesia (ID) | Laos (LA) | Madagascar (MG) | Malaysia (MY) | Myanmar (MM) | Papua New Guinea (PG) | Sri Lanka (LK) | Thailand (TH) | Vietnam (VN)Partner studies: -
Consortial Project 1
Started 2005 Consortial Project 1 investigates human genetic factors involved in resistance to severe malaria in order to better understand why, in regions where people are repeatedly exposed to malaria parasites, some people die from the infection while others survive.Sampling locations: Burkina Faso (BF) | Cameroon (CM) | Ghana (GH) | Kenya (KE) | Malawi (MW) | Mali (ML) | Nigeria (NG) | Papua New Guinea (PG) | Tanzania (TZ) | The Gambia (GM) | Vietnam (VN)Partner studies: -
Consortial Project 2
Started 2005 Consortial Project 2 studied the human genetic factors suspected to influence the antibody response to malaria parasite antigens, with a particular focus on antigens that are being strongly considered for vaccine development.Sampling locations: Burkina Faso (BF) | Kenya (KE) | Mali (ML) | Senegal (SN) | Sri Lanka (LK) | Sudan (SD) | Tanzania (TZ)Partner studies: -
Consortial Project 3
Started 2005 Consortial Project 3 is using whole genome sequencing to identify genetic diversity in genes known to be associated with resistance to severe malaria, within and across malaria-endemic populations.Sampling locations: Burkina Faso (BF) | Cameroon (CM) | Kenya (KE) | Ghana (GH) | Papua New Guinea (PG) | Tanzania (TZ) | The Gambia (GM) | Vietnam (VN) -
Consortial Project 4
Started 2005 Consortial Project 4 set out to find the specific genes responsible for malaria resistance within genomic regions identified in previous genetic linkage studies.Sampling locations: Senegal (SN) | Thailand (TH)
