Genomic Epidemiology of Africa

This computational course trained researchers and clinicians working in Africa on important aspects of human populations genetics and genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Participants from several countries including Cameroon, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa, came together to learn about the latest laboratory techniques and data analysis tools for genomic research, which they can now apply in their own research.

Professor Ayesha Motala and Centre Director Professor Tulio de Oliviera contributed interesting talks about the H3Africa diabetes study and about the Centre's efforts to understand HIV variation and transmission in local Zulu populations by large-scale sequencing.
