Whole-genome sequencing of P. vivax field isolates

A recent study reports the whole genome sequencing of five P. vivax isolates taken directly from blood samples of infected patients in Cambodia and Madagascar, as well as the Belem strain that is adapted to survive in monkeys. Each patient was found to be infected with multiple vivax strains. Researchers identified a catalogue of 80,000 SNPs, which can be used for large-scale genotyping and association mapping studies.
