Dr Roberto Amato: "We need to understand how the parasite is evolving in order to be successful in our malaria eradication strategies"

Dr Roberto Amato spoke with Karen Thomas from Cambridge TV about the importance of genetic surveillance in the fight against malaria.

Dr Roberto Amato spoke with Karen Thomas from Cambridge TV

He highlights the recent discovery of genetic markers for piperaquine – through a genome-wide association study performed on approximately 300 Plasmodium falciparum samples from Cambodia – and explains how these findings will give us more insight into the biology and evolution of the parasite and help us monitor and track the spread of drug-resistant malaria.
